Many good things have come from Switzerland including watches, fabulous chocolate, Coo-Coo Clocks, holey cheese and fine skiing. But there’s one more great thing that the Swiss gave us, it’s a cattle breed called the Brown Swiss.
One of the things the Brown Swiss are most known for is great feet and legs. With all of the great skiing in Switzerland, we know there are lots of hills and mountains. Because of this, Brown Swiss had to climb the mountains to get to their food and back to the barn for milking. Only the ones that had the best hooves and legs would survive in that environment.
Most historians believe that the Brown Swiss is the oldest breed of cattle, with bone remains dating back to 4000 B.C.!
