Many of you probably don’t know this about me, but I am a pageant girl. No, I’m not the snobby one you see on television with a dress that costs thousands of dollars. No need to fret, that’s not me at all. I am still the same girl as always. I am still the farm girl, the tom boy, but I’m just a pageant girl as another hobby.
I’m going to do a pageant that is right at home in The Thumb of Michigan which is a qualifier for the Miss Michigan pageant. For each pageant every contestant has to have a platform. A platform is basically a volunteer organization or cause which the girl has a passion for working with. She has to show dedication and a great deal of involvement to the pageant.
The reason why I’m talking about this is because I have two platform ideas that I just can’t decide between. Both of which I am extremely passionate about for separate reasons. So for my first ever Dairy Innovation poll, I’m going to put up my ideas and let you; the readers, choose.
Option 1: The first option is the obvious. It’s something that I am trying to do on this blog every day. I am trying to show you what life is like on the farm every day and how your food is grown and produced.
Option 2: This choice deals with two of my recent posts regarding my grandfather and uncle’s story. Click here to read about my grandfather and Click here to read about my uncle.
Vote below! The poll will be up until next week on Thursday!

I definitely identify with the “girly” side that most folks wouldn’t see. A lot of people are surprised when they find out I’ve done this sort of thing. The pageant I was in is a LOT different than the usual, though, as it’s by public vote and involves a lot of campaigning/marketing/etc.
I’m going to sound a little heartless here…but organ donation is a fairly popular issue. A lot of people are familiar with the benefits of being an organ donor. My concern is that if you take that platform, someone else might have it too. Agvocacy, however, is something that you do your way, and you’re pretty great at it. Take that passion and originality and run with it, girl. With your beauty and poise and wonderful brain, you’ll be fabulous.

Tough call there Ashley, so I didn’t vote. Obviously agricultural advocacy is my own passion and I believe that every opportunity to spread the word about how hard working Americans go about putting food on the plate for the rest of our population is something to be capitalized on.
However, coming from personal experience (my cousin saved 5 lives by organ donation when she had a stroke at 13), organ donation is a very moving cause that can have such a great impact on so many people.
Maybe an organ donation platform will give you a better opportunity to address agricultural issues later? Both are worthy causes.

Great thoughts Ben! Thanks so much. It’s amazing how much we have in common! I’ll let you know which I chose.
