We all have professional pictures, you know the head shots that we use for our jobs and we almost always hate them but they’re the pictures we use the most. They show up in magazines and marketing material. For example, this is one of my older head shots.
People outside of agriculture might not realize that cows also have a professional picture too. They’re used in lots of different situations and their purpose is to showcase all the goodies a cow posesses in a picture. We want to show she has an awesome udder, sound feet and legs and that she has pretty eyes.
Okay, so that last part wasn’t true, but I thought I’d throw it in there. It’s all about the eyes and the switch for me. Hmm, I don’t think we’ve discussed a cow’s switch yet. It’s actually the very long and fluffy part of her tail with the long, usually curly hair on it. I love the switch because we work long and hard to grow them out like our own hair. We style them, dye them if needed, rat them and spray them.
Yup, that’s right. Styling a cow or heifer’s tail for the show ring is just like a woman getting ready to go out. But that’s not me of course, I always take longer to get my cow’s switch ready than to do my own hair. 😉

I love looking at “professional pictures of cows”. A good dairy cow is just gorgeous.

I agree! It’s amazing how much a picture can show about a cow.
