In honor of Earth Day I felt I should show how dairy farmers take care of the environment everyday! On my family’s farm we recycle water used in our parlor to cool the milk by putting it into waterers for the cows. We spread our cow’s manure onto our fields as a natural fertilizer. My family is diligent to make sure we spread the manure when weather is sunny and away from any type of waterway or ditch. We only spread the amount of manure we need and we plow it into the field very shortly after we apply it.
We work hard to minimize any odors our farm may have and try to be respectful to our neighbors at all times. I can think of dozens of farmers that have the same respect for the Earth and it’s people everyday. The ability to produce food for the world is an honor and something we take seriously.
Check out this video to see how farmers work hard to make everyday Earth Day and go to Dairy Farming Today to learn more about modern dairy production and meet dairy farmers from across the nation!
