I’m so glad to be back with a Foodie Friday post. This one is a little different though, I’m not posting a recipe. My post will be all about chocolate milk, a topic that is near and dear to my stomach! In the past few months chocolate milk has gotten a lot flack. Many parents have started to worry about whether it has too much sugar and fat in it. But the reality is, all the benefits of the calcium, protein and vitamins outweigh the negatigves.
Chocolate milk is healthier than soda, juice and exercise drinks; even with the extra sugar in it. The newer formulas, often being served in school cafeterias, have 2 to 3 teaspoons of added sugar compared to 3 to 4 teaspoons of added sugar in traditional formulas. When the lower sugar is combined with a low fat or skim milk it’s a combination that can’t be beat on taste and health.
The link I wanted to share is here. At a recent Washington D.C. City Council Meeting a 1st grader spoke up for the benefits of chocolate milk and why it should be allowed in schools again. He brought up great points.
