My husband and I moved into the house I was raised in after we got married. When I say it is an old farmhouse I meant it.
No joke.
I’m seriously not laughing.
The last time this house has been update was in the 70’s when my grandparents remodeled it. My parents had always planned on building a home so the remodeling got left to The Hubby and I.
For those of you old enough to remember the 90’s show “Home Improvement”, what can I say. We watched it religiously. And then we watched the reruns religiously. My Dad loved to emulate Tim Taylor in the way that you can always do something better and/or faster.
But I digress. Over the last 4 months I have felt like my life was an episode of “Home Improvement”. While we have been working on our big barn project that you can see more of here, we have also been working on a few rooms of our house.
Needless to say I have been surrounded by a lot of power tools. Which for me is just scary, I get intimidated by them. Here is my first reveal of our projects. As a disclaimer, on the first few projects you will see that my before pictures suck or are non existent. I promise to do better on the next projects.
As you can see, maybe you can see this. Who knows, this picture is terrible. But this is of our closet before. We had to peel plaster and lath off of the walls. If you don’t know what lath is, you should hope you never find out.
Here is the closet with some of the organizational system together. We price shopped and realized the Ikea closet system was the best price. Let me tell you, we love it! I especially love my glass top drawers as you can see in the above picture.
Here is one shot of our finished closet. Wow, talk about love at first sight. Honestly, I actually put my clothes away at the end of the day. It’s also amazing how I wear different things because I can see them. But mostly, it’s really nice to have our things all in one area. Before the closet got done my husband’s clothes were downstairs and mine were upstairs in a bedroom. It was a mess. Now the system is so clean, streamlined and beautiful to look at!
Of course I had to have a shoe storage system. Of course it had to have boot shelves. I think I can fit another pair up there, what do you think?!
I would highly recommend the Ikea closet system. In the past they have had horrible directions, which I wouldn’t say the directions are very user friendly. But honestly, I don’t build things and I put together my entire glass top set of drawers myself. You just have to double check to make sure you are emulating the pictures exactly and you will be totally fine!
The more I get into these remodel projects the more I get into remodeling. We still have to make a storage system for my jewelry, but we have ideas so I cannot wait to share that with you all too. Also, the bedroom is done so I will be sharing that too. If you have been following the Facebook page you will know that the robots are up and running. That will probably be the next project I will share. Believe me, I have a lot to share about the robots! Stay tuned everyone.

Home improvements should not always have to be heavy tasks but simple & innovative like this. There are more to find on internet and your interior decorator may also provide unique ideas.
