No matter what you might believe about dairy farms and how they take care of their animals we do care about the health of our cows. There are a lot of ways we work to keep our cows healthy including keeping them in a good environment. One of the other tools we use is vaccinating our cows.
Just like we get vaccines such as flu shots, we vaccinate our cows again certain illnesses. Each farm has a unique vaccination program. The program my husband uses on the farm he works at is TOTALLY different than the one we use on our farm. There is nothing wrong with that; each dairy farm is totally unique and vaccinating is no different.
I work with our veterinarian Dr. Vogel. Dr. Vogel comes onto the farm every other week where we check cows for pregnancy, look at any sick animals and discuss things like vaccinating. Our veterinarian recommends which brand and type of vaccine we use, when we give them and he helps me to monitor the results.
On the farm we work hard to make sure the vaccines are working to prevent disease. By working with Dr. Vogel we make sure I am administering them according to the guidelines and maximizing their benefits for the cows.
