I am an avid bareMinerals user. I love how natural and light their powder foundation is. A few months ago I got invited to take part in a new product testing for bareMinerals. They had just developed a brand new liquid foundation called bareSkin and it was rumored to be revolutionary. Needless to say, I was excited to get this opportunity and was waiting on pins and needles for my foundation to arrive.
When I first opened my package I was kind of concerned because the foundation was a little darker than I normally would have picked out, my shade was Bare Linen 03. But, when I put it on the color was perfect. If anything it will work really well for summer when I get a little more color on my face.
One of the things I love the most about this foundation is it takes such little foundation to cover your face. This is not a heavy coverage foundation, which is something I like about it. You can add more coverage by simply using more on the brush. The foundation is more of a liquid than any other I have used. You literally squeeze drops onto the brush and buff it in with the foundation brush.
I would recommend starting with 2 drops of foundation on each side of your face and going from there. Like I said before, it is not a heavy coverage foundation so I still used my concealer for my under eyes and acne scars. Even with using concealer I still loved the light feel and felt like I wasn’t wearing any foundation which is how I feel when I wear their powder.
The foundation has a smooth feel which is due to the cocoanut oil that is in it. I would highly recommend using the brush because it is so liquidy, I really think it would be worth the money. The directions said you can use your fingers, but I really think you get the best use of the foundation with the brush. You get the smoothest, most even coverage.
I did find that the foundation tends to have a dewey look to it. I have combination/dry skin so it normally isn’t a big deal. But I did use the Mineral Veil while I was visiting Chicago and that seemed to give it more of a matte look and feel and took some of the shine away. If you have an extremely oily complexion this might not be the foundation for you, a lot of the other testers with more oily skin say that they don’t like how shiny it looks.
While in Chicago I put the foundation to a true test. I wore it the entire weekend. The weather was in the 70s for the much of the weekend and that was a great thing. It was also windy so that always seems to cause my makeup to wear off quickly. Since I am not used to 70 degree days I knew I would be working up a sweat while talking around the city (sorry, but I’m kind of a sweaty girl). Friday I wore just the foundation and it seemed to stay on really well, I did touch it up before we went out Friday night but overall I thought it stayed on well. Saturday and Sunday I used an Urban Decay setting spray called All Nighter (highly recommend) and my makeup lasted all day and night.
Overall, I really like the bareSkin Foundation and I will probably continue to use it when I want a longer lasting, heavier coverage foundation. I use it similarly to my bareMinerals powder foundation and find it to be a good compliment to the rest of the system. Personally, I wouldn’t use it without a good setting spray and if you have oily skin I wouldn’t use it either. I think the dewey look of the foundation combined with an oily complexion it wouldn’t work well. This is my honest opinion without any influence from bareMinerals, although the product was provided with no cost I still gave my honest opinion!
