In my younger years marrying a farmer was the last thing I wanted. I fought it with the vehemence that only a tween can have, “I will NEVER marry a farmer!” You know what they say about saying never… You should never say it. As I got older I saw the good points of being married to a farmer and then ended up only dating farm boys through my teens and twenties. Well played karma, well played. Today, I am sharing with you the 5 reasons why marrying a farmer will make your life better.
1. There are a lot of opportunities for husband-wife binding. Honestly, why shouldn’t castrating calves, chasing out cows back into the barn at 3 am on your husband’s birthday or working on a difficult calving together be considered relationship strengthening? These are annoying, stressful things at the time, but after the fact you can laugh about them… usually.
2. When you build or remodel your house you will not have the biggest challenge of your marriage. People have told me that when you build a house or do a major remodeling project it will test your marriage like nothing else. When it comes to farmers, we usually have a lot of experience building sheds and barns around the farm that the building process is nothing by the time it comes to building a house. My parents found exactly that to be true and other than the anticipation of moving in, the process was basically a breeze.
3. Your farmer is extremely handy around the house. Farmers tend to be very handy. Usually they have experience in plumbing, electrical and basic veterinary care. In one day they fix a leaky sink, figure out why your light won’t work and they can fix up the cut your dog got while he was outside. Handy is the keyword here and resourceful is the second key word. I cannot tell you how many times I have watched my husband or father fix something with duct tape, twine and maybe a pair of pliers.
4. He can drive anything in any weather. When it comes to a dairy farm we have to make it into work because the girls cannot wait to be milked or fed. That being said, my husband has made it into work in blizzards, flooding and probably a tornado or two. They also have experience driving any big rig or tractor and wagon combo that you can imagine. Which is convenient for you because nothing will intimidate them and you will never have to drive in bad weather.
5. They work with family and understand how important it is. As farmers we often work with our families whether it be sibling, parents, cousins, nieces or nephews, and children. Usually these farms have been passed down to many generations as well. We understand how important family is and we love and appreciate the fact that we get to work with them daily. Getting along every day is not in the cards, believe me. But there is not a day that goes by that I don’t appreciate the opportunity I am blessed with. Knowing that my husband and I want to raise the 4th generation on our farm is something I cannot wait to do. Family is just plain important to us and that is something you cannot just teach, it is something you are raised with.
I love my farmer husband. He is hard working, caring and funny as all get out. But believe me when I say this, marrying a farmer will make your life better. So make sure you go on your Match.com profile and add in that you are looking for a sexy, hard working farmer! You won’t regret it.
