I had a friend request an update on the home DIY project I have named House Extravaganza 2014. When someone asks about it I know it has been too long. So I am going to give you little snippets of it. We have a functioning kitchen again but it is not finished so I don’t want to give too much away. Just enough to wet your whistle for the time being. I don’t want to show you the entire kitchen until the back spalsh and paint are on the walls. So for now, this will have to do.
To make you feel like I did not put any extra effort into taking pictures I didn’t even clean off my counter tops….. Sorry that I’m not sorry. It is kind of hard to see in the picture (I am still mastering indoor picture taking, please forgive me) below but our stunning, beautiful cabinets are custom made by a family friend. They are white oak with a grey tinted stain. We love them and they are just gorgeous. Personally I am so glad we spend the extra money. The black cabinet pulls I found online and I just fell in love with them. I ordered one and the next day ordered 50 more. I will say that I originally found them on a regional hardware store but when I went to order 1 handle they wanted to charge me $13.50. This chick was like heck no. I thought that was a rip off and then I found them at Home Depot for 40 cents cheaper and they gave me free shipping for the 1 handle. I would just say to check around. I try to order and purchase local as much as possible but the shipping really killed me.
Our counter tops are Formica 180fx in Soapstone Sequoia. They are newer and have no repeating patterns on them. They are meant to look like real stone or granite. They do not scream laminate counter tops when you look at them and for that I love them. Obviously being laminate they are low maintenance which is perfect for us at this point in our life. The new 180fx also offer the option for different edges like you can get on stone counter tops. We could not get those because we have 2 corners that would not allow it. You will see that in one of the pictures I have for later.
Also, if you go on the Formica website you can get 2 FREE 12 inch by 12 inch samples of counter top. All of the stores charge for their samples, but I started looking on the Formica website and found out that they are free on there. When building and remodeling a house make sure you check with the company too! You might be amazed by what you can get for nothing.
The above picture shows the upper cabinets. We raised our ceiling from 8 feet to the original 9 feet it was built with. Talk about a lot of storage. I love the look of the glass doors as well! The glass we have is called rain glass for those of you who might be curious.
Below is one of my favorite parts of the new kitchen. I LOVE my new sink and faucet. The sink is so modern with its lines and minimal edges. I love the 60-40 basins. I got the Delta Touch faucet and I love it. When I am cooking and I have dirty hands, I love that I can just touch my faucet with my elbow and turn it on without getting it all dirty.
Another of my favorite parts of the kitchen is the eat in peninsula. I got the idea of the tractor seat stools from the faithful Pinterest. We found these tractor seats online for like $12 and the stools are from Ikea. All we did was cut down the seat section to fit the tractor seats and ta-dah, you have a comfortable stool. The next question is, do we need to paint the seats? I’m still undecided as to whether we should paint them. Or antique them? Or just leave them to go with the kitchen. I need your advice faithful readers!

I say leave the tractor seats as is too, or at least live with them for a while. You can always add paint but it’s hard to take away. And we will be needing some stools for our counter eventually and I LOVE this idea! So neat and affordable!! Also can I just say I think those are the most beautiful cabinets I’ve ever seen! Can’t wait to see the whole thing!

So true about it being hard to take paint away! They were so affordable and they look great and honestly, they are super comfy. I sit one for a few hours while I am working on my computer and my bottom doesn’t hurt at all! I wasn’t sure how comfortable they would be but they really are awesome to sit on.

I say don’t paint them since they are gray and go with the countertops.

I agree with you mom. They really do go with the counter tops.

Don’t paint the tractor seats!!! Love the rustic modern look they have right now! Maybe if you get tired of them in a few years, then paint them! Love the whole kitchen! You guys will have to help me in a few years when we renovate our house a little! =) Love how it is looking!

That’s what I was leaning toward but I really was not sure! I knew I was gong to wait until the entire kitchen is done before I made the final decision. We can definitely help you out! I can’t wait to have everyone over.
