In the past few months I have gotten into Young Living Essential Oils. Disclaimer: For those of you who are thinking I maybe went a little crazy. I am not. I started using it to help my skin because nothing else could get rid of my acne and for sleeping. I was tired of having the drug hangover that comes from taking sleeping medication. I am technically a wholesaler but it is not my goal to sell them to people. I believe that combined with modern medicine they can make a huge difference in people’s lives. If you want to talk about it or get started, please do not be afraid to contact me and we can talk. But this is not a sales pitch. That being said, they have helped me make unique, awesome homemade Christmas gifts at the last minute!
I had some girlfriends I wanted to make a nice, useful gift for and found this recipe thanks to a friend! If you don’t have all of the supplies to make it I have replacement options for the ingredients that can be substituted. But most of them can be found at most grocery stores.
Peppermint Sugar Scrub
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 1/2-2 cups sugar (either raw or refined)
3 drops Peppermint Oil or 6 drops Peppermint Extract
1 drop green food coloring (optional)
Mason jar and decorations
This is so easy. You literally throw it all in a bowl and mix by hand until everything is evenly incorporated. I used refined sugar because it was all I had at my house and that would make it more of a body scrub that can be used on legs or anywhere really. When the warm water of a shower mixes with the sugar it will melt and leave skin really soft. The raw sugar would make it more of a foot scrub because it would be much more abrasive for the really dry, rough spots on your body.
If this is not of interest to you, I also love homemade spices! Nothing says I appreciate you more than a homemade spice mix and I adore this list of mixes my friend Jenny from Prairie Californian put together for you.
Making the jars look beautiful and unique is easy as well. I simply used scrapbooking paper and leftover jute string from our wedding two years ago. Easy and beautiful.
Even though it is last minute, there is no need to fret, you can still have an awesome thoughtful gift for anyone on your list. I hope you all have a wonderful, joyous holiday!
