So, I am naturally tall and thin. I know, I am lucky. I have a job and family genes that keep me pretty thin. However, I have been gaining a little belly over the last few months and my thighs are getting kind of ridiculous. With all of the stress in my life I have been thinking about working on my personal fitness but just did not know where to start. For Christmas, my husband got a FitBit and he started running on the treadmill and eating better. Rather than sit on the couch eating chocolate and making fun of him, I decided to join him.
Our kitchen counter is littered with fruit and the majority of the refrigerator is filled with veggies. When I first started this workout thing I decided I wanted to try yoga. If you know me, you know I’m a little high strung and can have quite the temper. Taking after my mother’s side of the family (for the record I DO NOT take after my mom, I take after her dad) has some downers and the lack of patience is one of them.
I decided to try yoga. Living in rural America there are not a lot of places to take a yoga class and most of them are at 5:30 or 6 in the afternoon. At that time I am still out in the barn. So realistically making it to a yoga class isn’t practical. Besides, I have a thing about working out in public. I just hate looking stupid and I am extremely awkward. I am the person that bursts out laughing in the middle of deep breathing.
To YouTube I went and I found the most bad ass yoga instructor ever. After interspacing her 35ish minute classes between my Beach Body 21 Day Fix workouts; I am addicted to yoga. After the last video I actually whined because I wasn’t ready for it to be done, it seemed to go so fast. Who is the mystery yoga instructor? It is the amazing Adriene from Yoga with Adriene.
She has a ton of awesome videos for beginners and I am actually working on her 30 Days of Yoga series right now. She is not dorky for someone who is maybe just getting into yoga and doesn’t understand the mental part of yoga yet. She teaches you the poses and does not move too fast and reminds you to keep tab of your posture.
Be sure to go and check her out! I really think you will love her as much as I do.
I want to know what is your favorite resource for working out?

So I just had to come back here and say THANK YOU for this! I’ve been watching what I eat and trying to be more active lately, and I’ve been so sore after workouts. The other day I was like I should try that yoga video. I may be becoming a believer! I tried to tell myself yoga was only for tree hugging non-meat eating hippies, but I’m loving this Adriene chick and her videos!

I am so glad you tried her. Yes, she isn’t weird. She makes it easy to follow along while you are at home. I feel amazing after every workout. I was doing the 21 Day Fix from BeachBody and I literally could not move for 4 days after my first workout. My parents basically had to do my job for 2 days because I couldn’t move. That’s when I realized I should stick to Yoga,. ha ha!

That is what I am finding. I just really enjoy it and it helps clear my head. I wish we had some classes that didn’t hit chore time but oh well. The internet is a wonderful thing.
