My wonderful friend Megan from The Beef Jar wrote this funny but true post about 14 Tips for Dating a FarmHer or RancHer. There are lot of posts about dating farmers and ranchers, but there aren’t many about dating a woman farmer or rancher. I am guilty of it too seeing as I wrote this post. I loved hers so much, but I felt like there were a few more we could add to it!
1. We can castrate with our teeth. This was already said in the first edition. But I felt it needed repeating. So don’t mess with us.
2. We will be late. A lot. It is not because we changed our outfit 100 times and couldn’t decide what lipstick to wear. It is because something happened out in the barn. We cannot just leave something undone or leave a cow in an emergency. It just happens and so you should probably accept this.
3. We have getting ready quickly down to a science. Like in #2 we are late a lot. Which means we have 10 minute makeup down, lots of dry shampoo on hand and we have trusty outfits we can always run to in a pinch.
4. We get excited about shopping for strange things. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of us like shopping for clothes and makeup (myself included). But we also get excited about semen (animal of course), embryos, or buying an animal from a sale. You don’t have to pretend to understand, but pretend to be interested.
5. We have some basic first aid skills. Our suchering skills are not up to doctor level, but they will do in a pinch. This also means we are not scared of blood. In an emergency pinch we are the women you want around.
6. We can talk business and financials like the best of them. Our farms and animals are our loves but they are also a business. We know just as much as any boy out on a farm, don’t treat us like wimps.
7. We can spit like a man. In public we don’t advertise that skill. But if we are working on the farm, be prepared.
8. In 5 minutes we can change to being a lady as well. We may be a little rough around the edges but we don’t act like a well educated sailor all the time.
9. If you get to date or marry one of us you will never find a more caring, loving or hardworking partner in life.
So, guys, what is your favorite part about dating or being married to a FarmHer? Ladies, did Megan or I miss any?
