The next room in our Home DIY reveal is our office. Two weeks ago I shared with you the major transformation our kitchen made. Sadly, I do not have any before pictures of this room. I got swept up in gutting the room. But it used to be my parents bedroom and you had to walk through a small bathroom with a stand up shower to get to their bedroom. Now, the room has completely changed!
So to begin, I wanted to say almost all of our colors in our house are the Benjamin Moore Affinity color line. I have a fan deck for the colors and I couldn’t live without it. I literally walked from room to room and picked out colors on the deck. They are developed so that you can choose any color in the collection and they all go together and flow well. I can account for that, all of the colors I used flow so beautifully. The affinity collection really made it easy. You can order the fan deck here (it is an Amazon Affiliate link which means I might get a tiny bit of money if you order it… probably like 20 cents). I checked this price and it is cheaper than ordering from Benjamin Moore once you add the shipping on from the BM store.
Our office and laundry room is in Kalamata and I love it! Purple is my favorite color. Yes this room is full of color but I love how regal it feels without being too much. I just do not even know where to start with this room! I will start out by saying, we did use a lot of Ikea for this room and I think you will be surprised.
We opened up the living room to the new office/laundry room by making a pocket door. We used two of the original doors from the house, fused them together and hung them from sliding door hardware that we just bought from Tractor Supply Company in town. We spray painted the hardware antique bronze and poof, we have the perfect sliding doors for the room.
Onto my favorite area of the room. I absolutely love my new laundry area. It is organized but also pretty to look at. Two months ago my front load washer died and I went back to a top load and that’s why my washer is no longer on a pedestal. That changed up our entire plan for this area but I cannot tell you how happy I am with with it.
The cabinets are actually an Ikea purchase! They are the perfect size for holding extra detergent and were extremely inexpensive. The shelf below we made from wood scraps we had and painted it a glossy black to match the cabinets. We then hung a burlap curtain on the back. The curtain covers the hookups for the washer but it allows us to have easy access to it in the case of an emergency. My mother in law is the mastermind behind this all.
I love my stackable laundry basket storage. I can still separate different types of laundry but it is out of sight. This plan is an Ana White plan that is similar to ours. We ended up changing our some to fit our area and needs as you can see.
I love my open shelves because they are the perfect place to display these gorgeous vintage blue mason jars. My heart went pitter patter when I filled them up and and set them on the shelf.
Now for the office part of the room. I have never had an office and a real desk. Let me tell you, I love this thing. It was such a great find too. My mother in law found this high quality desk on an online auction for $125 with the fees and taxes. For that money you couldn’t find anything close to this in quality and usability brand new. Didn’t have to touch the desk up at all. Like I said, an amazing find!
Remember when I said I have a lot of Ikea in this room? This rug is Ikea and I fell in love with it. I just had to have it and it looks beautiful in this room. Did I mention it’s an indoor/outdoor rug so it’s super easy to clean and easy to keep clean. My desk chair is also Ikea. I am waiting to find the perfect chair for my office.
Onto more Ikea. We got this entire cabinet system for only a few hundred dollars! Talk about oodles and oodles of storage. These are the things organized dreams are made of. We just finished the top of them with dry wall and we added trim on the bottom and it looks like a custom piece. No one believes me that it was bought from Ikea. These are the cabinets we bought, sadly they retired our doors now. Luckily they have a lot of other options and some new storage systems that I really like now.
My favorite part of these cabinets is my custom laundry shoot from upstairs. It is so handy to not have to carry dirty clothes downstairs. Every person needs one of these.
On my next home post I will share our bathroom update and I cannot wait to share how gorgeous this tiny bathroom turned out.
What is your favorite part of the laundry room/office?
