My husband and I were thrilled, nervous, terrified and excited when we found out we were pregnant. Everyone gives you advice on what to expect but there are a few advantages that no one tells you about that feel I need to share.
Less Belly Button Surface Area to Clean.
Let’s be real, the belly button is a tricky area to clean. But, as my baby belly gets bigger, my belly button gets smaller. I call this a win-win because this is the only time in my life where my belly can get bigger and my belly button will get smaller.
I can eat whatever I want and I can’t pinch any extra fat on my stomach.
Really, it’s almost like a tummy tuck, except I have a tiny human kicking me in the bladder. And my belly isn’t any smaller. It’s actually growing every day. But it’s almost like a tummy tuck because for 9 months I get to be in denial about the fact that I actually will have a very flabby belly.
You can wear whatever shoes you want.
When your feet are bloated and huge, and only 2 pairs of shoes fit you are short on selection. Lucky for you, everyone feels bad that your feet are so big that it doesn’t matter what the occasion is. Oh, teal athletic tennis shoes with a beautiful black dress at a formal wedding? No biggie, you’re pregnant and you have ankles the size of a sumo wrestler. Besides, no one is looking at your shoes, they can’t see them past your baby bump.
You could plan your surprise party.
In the first 12 weeks I was in a total fog. I just couldn’t retain anything. Now, I have lost a fog but I still forget about 50% of what is told. It’s handy because your weekend plans are always a surprise.
Catching up on Netflix.
A few weeks ago I got put on bed rest. That makes for a lot of intimate time with Netflix. I didn’t have much time for it before and normally when I did I was too tired. Now, I have lots of time on the couch and that means Orange is the New Black and I will become very close and intimate friends.
What are some other advantages to pregnancy that maybe you didn’t expect?

This is funny! Sorry to hear you are on bed rest, but I guess like you said there are few positives to that. Do you ever listen to audio books? I loved Antler in my Living Room. It is really funny.

I have not listened to any audio books but I am reading some now. I’m working on To Kill a Mockingbird, I’ve never read it. Whoops, I prefer English Literature so I skipped this book. I might have to start listening to books because I could get more blogging done while I am listening to books.
