If you have had kids you would know lactation is a big deal. Today it is not what our mother’s idea of nursing/pumping was. There is a whole new level of knowledge about lactation. That goes with cows as well. This lactation knowledge helps us keep our cows healthy. By preventing infection and harvesting milk in a comfortable, healthy way we are keeping our antibiotic use down.
To show how serious we are about lactation knowledge. In order to graduate from college with my Dairy Management degree we had to take a semester long course called Mammary Physiology. We talked about udders, lactation and milk all semester long. In my Anatomy and Physiology class for my Bachelor’s Degree we spent a great deal of time talking lactation again. When we are talking mammals, lactation is a big deal.
I thought about writing another post about milking. Then I decided I would share everything I have already done. To learn more about how our robotic milking procedure works and how it keeps milk harvest sanitary and healthy for the cows see the video I made.

With this being the conclusion of my Modern Farming Series. Through it I hope you have learned about how modern farming practices are helping to make your food safer. By doing a better of job of keeping our cows happy and comfortable we are able to keep them healthier. By keeping them healthier we are able to use fewer antibiotics.
