A month ago now we celebrated the blessing Baby K is with a baby shower. We decided to have the shower really early knowing the risks we had, we wanted to beat the holidays and we had family visiting from out of state that week. Little did we know I would already be on moderate bedrest at that point. So, good thing we had it really early in October with a mid-January due date.
Whenever I thought of what our baby shower theme would be I went through a lot of ideas, but I always went back to Disney. The problem is I had such a hard time narrowing it down to just one movie or character. So, how do you beat that problem? You make it a multiple Disney movie shower, duh. Anyone who is a true Disney fan knows it can be hard to pick one favorite.
There are so many ways to go about a more general Disney themed event. After a lot of discussion the event planner I hired for the decoration part…. Ha ha, just kidding. My decorator was my mother in law. My mom and my mother in law worked together on the whole shower, but my mom will be the first to tell you decorating and creative are not her things. My mom is phenomenal at logistics, so really it all works out.
My mother in law, Helen, and I decided to make each table a different Disney movie. That way we could have incorporated as many of my favorites as possible. Which of course we still had to trim it down a bit because I still had more favorites than tables. One of the best parts was each table had their own cake themed to the movie. Needless to say I was giddy over the prospect of having all of these cakes with different themes and it meant more flavors of cake. Have I ever told you how much I love cake? Well, I do. It’s a thing in my family. Even if we don’t want to go to a wedding, we figure there will be cake so we go.
I digress. Each table was decorated with appropriate figurines for each movie. I thought it turned out great and it all came together amazingly. Without any further ado, here are the tables! I will start with my favorite because well, Peter Pan is probably my favorite Disney movie.
Isn’t the detail in ship just amazing? I was floored when I saw it. A very close second for me was the Toy Story cake. The Mr. Potato Head was one of my favorite toys growing up and I loved his character in the Toy Story movies.
Yes, that is a cake! The box is a cake. And it was darn good chocolate cake in there. Next is the Beauty and the Beast cake. Isn’t Sheila, the cake artist just amazing?
The rose was literally suspended under the glass! Talk about phenomenal. Here is a throwback for those of you! The detail in Timothy Q. Mouse is just out of this world.
Who doesn’t love a moonlit dinner of spaghetti? We all know Lady and Tramp do!
What would a Disney shower be without Little Nemo? Don’t worry, Nemo came to the party!
The seven dwarfs made an appearance as well with this gorgeous Snow White themed cake.
It wouldn’t be Disney without Mickey and Minnie making an appearance!
If you are in our area, Sheila did our cakes and I would recommend her to anyone. She is so talented and her cake tastes divine. Go see her Facebook page for all of the other amazing cakes she has done.
Eric and I just want to thank our families for all of the time they put into it. Our mothers, our fathers, and all of our siblings and sibling in laws had a part in the shower. Thank you to all of the friends and family that came. It wouldn’t have been complete without you and your generosity was overwhelming. Baby K will be a very loved baby!
If you already have kids, I would love to hear what your baby shower theme was?
