I know so many people worry. Through the years I have heard worries that range from pesticides to antibiotics to sustainability to water. I just listened to a TED talk the other day where a speaker “explained” apples are doused in pesticides. There is a lot of colorful language used to describe farming and the practices. I have heard we douse food with poison and shoot up animals with antibiotics.
Let me say this, life on the farm is not that exciting. Not at all. We do not douse food with poison. When you see a farmer spraying a field, per acre, the amount of herbicide or pesticide is one can of soda and the rest is water. We responsibly use antibiotics when an animal is sick and with the help of our veterinarian we only give them what they need to get better.
As a mother I am very concerned with what goes in Calli’s mouth. I am not perfect but I try to make sure she eats healthy things as much as possible. As a runner I want to fuel my body to be fast and healthy. Believe me, I understand. When you cannot see how your food is raised, it can be scary. You have to trust people you don’t know.
That is why I am going to start a new series of blog posts. It is called, “Is My {insert food here} Safe?” I cannot promise how regularly I will be writing in this series because I am trying to put more hours in on the farm so writing only happens during small breaks. However, I promise I will keep adding to it over time.
For the the time being, I would love to hear which foods you would like to learn more about and specifically what you want to know about them.
