Right now we are working on remodeling my office. I cannot wait to get into it and start organizing everything and decorating. I like all of my fellow 4-H friends that showed livestock have a ton of ribbons just sitting around my house. When I saw this project on Pinterest, I knew I was going to make one for my office. I’m not sure about your local or state 4-H program but ours is always looking for ways to save money. The rosettes and ribbons I didn’t use in this project I am going to donate back to them, that… Read More
Secrets to Cooking: Tips for a Beginner
I wasn’t raised to be an awesome cook. Don’t get me wrong, my mom is a damn good cook. When I was younger I didn’t do much of the cooking, my mom did. But she did have me help her and we always did a baking project for 4-H. I am still a crappy baker because it’s hard to fix baking once you mess it up. Either way, doing a 4-H baking project as a kid taught me the basics that I use every time I am in the kitchen. The first thing is learning to read a recipe. If… Read More
Bye Bye Dry Winter Skin
I have extremely dry skin and my face is the worst. On a normal winter I have a hard time keeping my skin from flaking. Anyone in the midwest knows this winter has been exceptionally harsh, so I expected my skin to be worse than normal. When winter was just starting I stopped into my “local” Sephora store. When I say local, I mean I drove well over an hour south to the northern suburbs of Detroit after I made a BIG Ikea trip. When you live out in the middle of nowhere driving time is very relative. On this… Read More
The Dog Ate my Package
Beauty Swap never seems to be dull! Which I suppose is a very good thing. This time my partner was the wonderful Crystal from Crystal Cattle. If you haven’t been on her blog or Facebook page yet, you are missing out. Her Turquoise Thursday posts are addicting to say the least. Crystal is from a Registered Hereford farm in Iowa so she takes a lot of pictures of beautiful red cows with white faces. Let me tell you, I got an awesome box from Crystal! But there was a time where I wasn’t sure whether I would get it. My… Read More
The Winter Hues and Input
As everyone knows this has been a cold winter for us on the farm. Rather than continue to complain about it (as much as I would love to) I’ve decided to share some of the things we have seen in the winter! With all of this cruddy weather there is a lot of depression and extra hours going around the farm. This means I am having a hard time thinking of farm topics to write about. So, I am asking for some input. What do you want to learn about? What do you want to see pictures of? Please, share… Read More
Taming the Yellow Hurricane
All of the rooms in our old farmhouse have the classic 1970s wood paneling. It was dark and pretty dreary. To brighten the place up my mother painted the upstairs bathroom a bright color. My grandmother had it a bright teal. When I was young it was a lavender color and later my mom painted it her second favorite color, yellow. This was before we realized you should pick out the color you like and then go one shade lighter. What we thought was a nice, buttery yellow turned out to be a color similar to lemonade that is made… Read More
Beauty Swap is Success in a Brown Box
I participated in the Beauty Swap hosted by Crystal Cattle and Jenny Dewey. In the stress of Christmas it was amazing to get that brown box from my partner! The awesome person I was matched up with was Sandy. She was a lot of fun to get to know and we ended up having a lot in common, including our simple, daily makeup routines! When I got my box I was thrilled and couldn’t wait to try it all out. The first thing I tried was this great NARS nail polish. I tend to wear a lot of black and grays. I like… Read More
Accessories Galore
I have not done a fashion post in a long time, but that does not mean I have forgotten to find new things. Let me tell you, I am thrilled to share this Etsy find with you. I wear a lot of black and with black you can wear almost any kind of jewelry you want which we know. One of my favorite looks is a gold necklace with a black top. It’s a simple color palette but it has an edge to it that I love! I only had one gold necklace but I was in need of another… Read More
