When I started blogging I scoured the internet to find Ag bloggers that I could look to for inspiration and advice. Like thousands of now regular readers I found Ree Drummond’s blog. Ree, a.k.a. The Pioneer Woman, does a fabulous job of combining cooking, ranching, home schooling, and photography into a dynamic and always interesting blog. I am a regular reader of The Pioneer Woman’s blogs and we actually have a lot in common including cooking.
The Journey
Now, I’m sure by reading the title you thought this would be some kind of a philosophical post. You will be sorely disappointed. This is the journey I’m going to be talking about.
Occupational Hazard: Sand Paper and Slime
Many of you are probably wondering what do sand paper and slime have in common. Not much really. These aren’t exactly what my latest occupational hazards are they’re more descriptions for what I’m going to be discussing. For those of you that have a pet might have experience with these things…. animal tongues. Go ahead and laugh, but a cow’s tongue is a whole different ball game. Not only is my cow’s tongue 10x the size of your dogs it has a few different characteristics. A cow’s tongue isn’t smooth like ours, it has a texture similar to sandpaper. They… Read More
Yes, I really do like to cook!
Yes, I really do like to cook, but I’m also alright at it! I still remember the first time I called home and told my parents I had cooked my roommates dinner. I made my mom’s mostacholi and I think my dad said something to the effect of “And they actually ate it?”. I was lucky and grew up in a household where my mom was a wonderful cook and she was usually around to make a meal. If not, I could handle Mac and Cheese or something else simple. When I went to college, I took a bunch of my mom’s… Read More
Names Are Important, Even in Ag
To most people in the world names are important. They are used to identify objects, places and people. Names can be a good thing or a bad thing. They can be a nickname or something that has been passed down for generations.
2010… Almost in the Books
It’s amazing to think that 2010 is almost over. The older I get, the faster time seems to go. When I was thinking about my last year of blogging I can’t believe how far my blog has come and how many great people I’ve met. There were a lot of posts from this year that have meant a lot to my family, my farm and myself.
Defining Agriculture
There are many definitions for agriculture. From my perspective I see a very distinct difference between the definition of a farmer and that of a consumer. Often times, in a consumers mind agriculture is a dirty word. It’s associated with factory farming, “dangerous” pesticides and “big ag”.
Winter Fun Results
Well, on Christmas Eve Eve I am going to share the results of my winter poll. This poll has a unique result. Most of the time there is a clear cut winner. This week is different. There are four winners. My personal favorite and the one I agree with the most if Hibernating until winter. If I could, that would be my choice. But you guys also picked skiing, snowmobiling and sledding. All of which are great choices until spring comes back. Well, have a great Christmas Eve Eve and I will put up my next poll tomorrow!
